UPNC has had yet another all-round incredible year for 2017/2018. The club’s 5 competitive teams have displayed some incredible match play with our 2 BUCS teams competing at Universities across the West of England, and all 5 teams competing in the local Plymouth District Netball League (PDNL). Our 14 Superleague teams all play socially providing opportunities for all members to enjoy netball and make new friends. In the past year, we have received Gold Icons as well as being awarded ‘Sports Club of the Year’ at the UPSU Sports Awards in May 2018. Fundraising has also been a large part of UPNC this year, raising over £2000 for Women in Sport, through many events such as tournaments with other societies, bake sales, quiz nights, 10Ks and half marathons. We will be continuing with our fundraising success into the next academic year with our new charity Papyrus, a charity selected by our existing members. Papyrus is a charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide and we look forward to educating and starting conversations with our members about suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Alongside this, we will continue to offer volunteer opportunities in coaching netball at local secondary schools. Looking to the next academic year, the club will be keeping up the traditions of Wednesday night socials and sober socials through our established links with local sponsors. Following last year’s successful grand tour to Amsterdam, UPNC will be off again to a new exotic destination. UPNC offers an extensive range of kit and chances to work on all aspects of our sport, with health and safety and C-award umpiring qualifications too! This coming year we also have a new and exciting announcement as we will be introducing a 6th competitive team as well as a 3rd BUCs team, and this will allow more girls the opportunity to play netball at a competitive level. The club’s 18-girl strong committee look forward to welcoming our existing members back to Plymouth and welcoming new members to our netballing family! We are very excited for UPNC’S new chapter!
