ARE YOU A TEAMS GIRL?
BUCS
Throughout this year, our teams girls within UPNC have proven they have so much to bring to the club, with our top two teams competing in the British Universities & College Sport (BUCS) Netball Leagues on Wednesdays, with the first team under the captaining of Caitlin Moriarty, and the future captaining of Emily Bell, in Western 3A and the second team under the captaining of Emily Ford and the future captaining of Verity Lemm, with a recent league promotion, proving that us UPNC girls really know how to rock it on court!

PDNL
All of our 5 competitive teams play in the local Plymouth & District Netball League (PDNL), competing on Monday and Tuesday nights in the top 5 divisions. Our 1st team is currently 6th in the Prem A league, the 2nd’s are competing within the Prem B league, our 3rd team have been fighting for the top spot, and our 4th team are following 9th in Division 2. Our 5th team is placing 9th in Division 3 but are working their way up with the help of some of our new, well deserved, additions to the team, scouted from Superleague. All of UPNC’s teams girls are playing outstandingly at a highly competitive standard of play and are constantly working their way up throughout the leagues. Our girls within teams 3s, 4s, and 5s are constantly pushed to play the best they can by our incredible coach Jenna Stephens who, through dedication to UPNC, has boosted the matchplay by 100%, and, through her organisation, our 1s and 2s have recently trained alongside the England mid-court Sasha Corbin! Within the coming academic year, we are proud to announce a new role within our committee of 3s, 4s, and 5s co-ordinator, awarded to our current 5th Team Captain Sum Sandhu for all her hard-work and dedicated efforts to the club. You go girl! All our teams have been playing friendly matches against local teams within PDNL, allowing us to offer additional opportunities to play more netball outside of the league. Recently, the whole of UPNC have banded together to take club photos, where our 5 competitive teams and Superleague all got involved!
“Being both the First Team Captain throughout 2017/18 and the First Team Captain of 2018/2019, along with the Committee, we would like to welcome our hopeful future netballers to the up and coming Season of 2018/2019 with UPNC! UPNC are looking for new members for the forthcoming year! If you’re a Netball player, committed, love working as part of a team or even want to try out something completely new, then UPNC is the club for you. With up to 300 players, 5 competitive teams playing in the Plymouth District Netball league, 2 of which are playing in BUCS and with a 3rd BUCS team now introduced for September, UPNC competes across the South-West every Wednesday and our very own UPNC Superleague, which encompasses approximately 16 teams! There’s something for everyone.
“Work hard, play hard.” Not only do we aim to create an environment where high performance players can transcend, and players of all standards can improve; we are also a tight-knit group of girls, who’s friendships off the court have attributed to our victories on court. This year is sure to be an exciting one, with great attitudes to further improve our fitness and skill level, we hope to repeat our previous successes in the following season!
I would urge anyone looking for the complete University experience to join UPNC! So, come and see us at Fresher’s Fair and sign up! See you ALL in September!”
-Caitlin Morairty and Emily Bell, 1st Team Captain 2017/2018, 1st Team Captain 2018/2019.
OR IS SUPERLEAGUE MORE FOR YOU?
For the girls within UPNC who want to play netball socially, we have the option of our Superleague, where we can train and play in an internal league, against eachother at the weekend. Every weekend without fail, our Superleague girls have been training and playing hard in a variety of weather conditions, working hard with eachother to achieve the top spot, which, recently, team Topaz went up against team Pearls and were victorious in being crowned winners of Superleague 2017/18! Our Superleague Co-ordinators every year go above and beyond to ensure we work hard with drills and netball related fitness sessions to improve the standard of play, setting up sports day vibe fitness sessions to really test how well Superleague girls can work.
Some girls never fail to disappoint us with their complete dedication to the club, which does not go unnoticed, in particular some of our Superleague legends Jade Morris and Natalie Hazel, who, along with Natasha Nelson will take over as our new Superleague Co-ordinators in the coming academic year, so here are some friendly faces to get used to for any prospective netballers in the future academic year. Our Superleague Co-ordinators love to award our shining players with awards for the Most Improved and the Most Committed to sunday match play, and a huge congratulations to every single girl who achieved an award is in order! Matches have been played at an exceptionally high standard this year and it is so exciting to see how much more confident all of our girls have come this year, driving their netball skills to be as good as is possible.
“I have been playing within Superleague for two years now, and I can honestly say these two years have been unbelievable to play alongside some amazing girls. Our Superleague Co-ordinators always go above and beyond to improve our game play and open up new opportunities with in Superleague, whether it be increasing our stamina within fitness sessions or helping us play to the best of our abilities within sunday matches. I am so proud to be apart of UPNC’s Superleague, and I will remember these memories I have gained with my friends for the rest of my life”
- Mollie Donovan

” I absolutely love playing within my Superleague team Ambers because everyone is constantly motivational towards each other and we make sure that each and every girl has the best time possible when playing. There is always competition to win the league but everyone is friendly as we are all there for the same reason, to have fun and boost our netball play. I have made friends for life and I wouldnt change playing within UPNC for anything”
– Gemma Clark
"Superleague is a huge and vital part of UPNC! It is a great place and opportunity to brush up and improve your netball skills if you’re a little rusty, don’t yet feel confident enough for teams or are a first time netballer. The internal league is run by us (Natalie and Natasha), second year girls who were part of superleague last year and are excited to plan fun and challenging drills and exercises. After you sign up at Freshers Fair, we will sort you into teams during our first training session, on the 29th September, based on your position and here we are flexible to make sure you are happy and feel comfortable with the girls within your team. The first few training sessions will be about bonding and getting to know the others, doing fun, team-bonding activities. You girls will then train on Saturdays from 12-2 to improve your skills as a team and as individuals. With the progress you make in training, you will be able to apply this in your matches on Sundays. We will set up a games schedule for Sundays once your teams are all sorted so you know exactly who you are playing at what time. These matches give you a chance to practice and improve your skills, work together as a team and most importantly of all, have a laugh! Superleague is also a great platform to showcase your netball skills in order to move on up to teams in the reshuffling after Christmas. Last year we had a few girls move up to the competitive teams when they were recognised for their fab skills and technique! So, if you were not that confident enough to trial, this is another way of getting into teams that gives you motivation to give your all at training and matches. Or, if you aren’t worried about the competitive side, then this internal league is the place to have some fun with you friends as well as being involved in this great sport! Superleague is a close and fun group of girls that are the heart and soul of UPNC. We will be at the freshers fair, so come and sign up to join this amazing club that will be a fab addition to your university experience!"
Natalie & Natasha, Superleague Co-ordinators
One of the most excitng things that has happened this past term with Superleague is the creation of our All-Star Team UPNC Gems! These girls were hand-picked by our Superleague Co-ordinators to form a new team, and these girls have started playing friendly matches against local Plymouth teams, raring to reach similar levels to those of our current competitive teams. This way the girls can play to a higher standard and it can fuel fire for girls to train for teams next year. Excitingly, the club has so much planned for the future of Superleague, and it will be incredible to see how much more we can conquer within UPNC!
